The HP Neverstop Printer is a game-changing system that allows users to refill their printers with toner powder--no more expensive or bulky cartridges to replace. Mixer’s job was not only to invent the technology, but to make it easy-to-use, beautiful, and ideal for home offices, schools, small businesses and co-working spaces. It also had to be completed in record time.
Invent it - Design it - Engineer it
Our client’s goal was to create a clean, reliable and intuitive way to add toner powder directly into HP’s printers. Our team had to first invent an entirely new way to package and refill a printer. Out-of-the-box thinking and iterative prototyping generated numerous clever solutions that were awarded a slew of U.S and international patents.
User Observation and Testing
Our design process was informed by user observations and formal testing. Numerous methods of loading toner powder were tested with actual users to be sure that the selected concept would be well understood. The scope of our user experience design spanned from opening the toner refill package to filling the printer to responsible disposal.
Concept to Production
Our deliverable went from early concepts all the way through to volume production. Mixer’s Industrial Designers took on the challenge of making this new and unfamiliar experience understandable to use. Our Mechanical Engineers completed the detail-design and documentation for cost reduction and manufacturability.
